Male gaze

My analysis of Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea's video for their song 'Booty'.

From the begin (26 seconds) we are presented with a picture of J-Lo's bum, this immediately captivates the male audience's attention and gaze. The use of her body intends to bring the audience into an almost trance like state, in which they do not take much notice of her music which is not particulary good or a selling point.

When reaching 31 seconds we are then shown both of the women wearing little clothing 'twerking' on each other, once again they use their bodys as a selling point which takes away the male/female audience's attention from the average music.

Upon 50 seconds we are shown Iggy provocatively dancing with her bum facing the camera which connotes intent to attract the male viewer in sexualised way. Her lack of clothing supports the sexualisation of her body towards a viewer that may be attracted to her.

When reaching 1:38 we are shown J-Lo gazing intently down the camera which connotes sexual intent towards the viewer and a desire. In addition her shirt is undone leaving her bra on show, this sexualisation of her body is again a deliberate ploy to entice the viewer into an almost 'fantasy'.

Additionally we are presented with J-Lo facing the camera with her gaze fixed on the camera and lips slightly picked which also connotes sexual feelings towards the viewer, who by the nature of the video is going to be most likely a adolescent male.
